"Singin' in the Rain" is a song with lyrics by Arthur Freed and music by Nacio Herb Brown, published in 1929. It was a hit at the time and recorded by a number of artists, notably Cliff Edwards, who also performed the number in the early musical sound film The Hollywood Revue of 1929. It was also performed on film by Jimmy Durante and Judy Garland. The song was the centerpiece of a 1952 film of the same name which forms the basis for the remainder of this article, and was used in the soundtrack of a subsequent film, A Clockwork Orange, in 1971.

Singin' in the Rain, a 1952 Gene Kelly musical film, chronicled Hollywood's transition from silent films to " talkies".

For a "musical", the movie has an extraordinarily intelligent plot, which greatly contributes to the work being systematically classified as the best musical comedy ever. Themes of certains arts being inferior to others, or the immortal if you seen one of them, you've seen them all (which is what Rossini also said about his operas) are today as vivid as ever.

Kelly plays Don Lockwood, who frequently stars with Lina Lamont ( Jean Hagen ), who has a grating voice and thinks their screen romance is real. At the urging of Lockwood and his partner Cosmo Brown ( Donald O'Connor), the studio turns their current film The Dueling Cavalier into a musical and overdubs Lamont's voice; meanwhile Lockwood falls in love with the overdub artistA voice actor (or voice artist is a person who provides voices for computer and video games, puppet shows, amusement rides, audio dramas, dubbed foreign language films, stop motion, and animation works (including cartoons, animated feature films, animated ( Debbie ReynoldsDebbie Reynolds (born April 1, 1932) is an American actress and singer. The dance routine in which Gene Kelly sings the title song while twirling an umbrella, splashing through puddles and generally getting soaked to the skin, is probably the most famous of all movie musical sequences. It has of course been parodied several times, notably by Morecambe and WiseMorecambe and Wise were a famous British comic double act comprising Eric Morecambe and Ernie Wise.
