Tales of Mystery and Imagination is a progressive rock album by the Alan Parsons Project, released in 1976 (see 1976 in musicSee also 1975 in music, other events of 1976, 1977 in music, 1970s in music and the list of 'years in music' Events January 7 Kenneth Moss, a former record company executive, is sentenced to 120 days in the Los Angeles County Jail and four years probation). The album's avant-garde soundscapes kept it from being a blockbuster, but the interesting lyrical and musical themes -- retellings of horrorHorror fiction is, broadly, fiction intended to scare, unsettle or horrify the reader. Although a good deal of it is about the supernatural, any fiction with a morbid, gruesome, surreal, suspenseful or frightening theme may be termed "horror"; conversely, stories by Edgar Allan PoeEdgar Allan Poe ( January 19, 1809 October 7, 1849) was an American poet, short story writer, editor and critic. He is best known for his tales of the macabre and his poems. Biography Life Poe was born in Boston, Massachusetts, the son of actress Eliza Po -- attracted a small audience. Critical reaction was often mixed, such as Rolling Stone magazine, whose Billy Altman concluded that the album mosty failed at reproducing Poe's tension and macabre fear, ending by claiming that "devotees of Gothic literature will have to wait for someone with more of the macabre in their blood for a truer musical reading of Poe's often terrifying works".

Tales of Mystery and Imagination peaked at #38 on Billboard's Pop Albums chart. "(The System Of) Doctor Tarr And Professor Fether" peaked at #37 on the Pop Singles chart.

January 3 Aretha Franklin becomes the first woman inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. January 4 An Amtrak train Parsons completely remixed the album for CD with some new instrumentation, and added narration by Orson Welles who recorded his speeches on DAT shortly before his death. The original 1976 mix has not been released on CD.
