Batman first met Talia when he rescued her from the insidious Dr. Darrk. Darrk, a former employee of Ra's al Ghul's, chose to go off on his own and create a criminal cartel to rival his former master's. As leverage against Ra's, Darrk kidnapped Talia from the University of Cairo, where she was studying medicine. Batman, intent on bringing Darrk to justice for previous crimes, trailed him deep into the Orient and rescued Talia, who then killed Darrk rather than allow him to take Batman's life."
