The Teen Idles were an influential hardcore punk band, though they existed only for about fourteen months. Jeff Nelson and Ian MacKaye formed the band as well as Dischord Records, revolutionizing the Washington DC music scene and setting the stage for the development of straight edge. The Teen Idles were the first band on Dischord Records, its members (or most of them- mostly Ian and Jeff) would move on to other bands over the course of the next few years, Ian McKaye and Jeff Nelson still both run Dischord Records to this day and still produce/record/sign bands to their label as well as participated in many groups. (Some of Ian's were Embrace, Skewbald/Grandunion, Minor Threat, Egg Hunt, Fugazi, and the Rozzlyn Rangers. Some of Jeff's were Egg Hunt, Minor Threat, Skewbald/Grand Union, Three, and the High Back Chairs.)
