The Today Show (officially called Today) is a long-running morning news show airing on the NBC television network in the United States. It first aired on January 14, 1952 as a half-hour news show.

Today was the first of its genre when it first signed on with host Dave Garroway. The show successfully blends national news headlines, in-depth interviews with newsmakers, lifestyle features, other light news and gimmicks (including the presence of the chimpanzee J. Fred Muggs as the show's mascot during the early years), and local news updates. It has spawned several other shows of a similar type, including ABC's Good Morning America, CBS's The Early Show, and the Canadian series, Canada AM.

The show is filmed and produced at studio 1A of the GE Building in Rockefeller Center, New York. The studio is located right next to the street and many times the hosts do the weatherWeather comprises all the various phenomena that occur in the atmosphere of a planet. On Earth the regular events include wind, storms, rain, and snow, which occur in the troposphere or the lower part of the atmosphere. Weather is driven by energy from th or other events from outside.

Today was the brainchild of Pat WeaverSylvester "Pat" Weaver ( December 21, 1908 March 17, 2002) was the father of actress Sigourney Weaver. He was president of NBC between 1953 and 1955. He created the Today Show in 1952 and Tonight Show in 1954. Weaver, Pat Weaver, Pat., who was then vice-president of NBC. The show is currently hosted by Katie CouricKatherine Anne Couric better known as Katie Couric (born January 7, 1957) is an American television journalist. She was born in Arlington, Virginia. In 1975, Couric attended the University of Virginia, from where she graduated in 1979. She married Jay Mon and Matt LauerMatt Lauer is the co-host of Today Show on NBC with Katie Couric on the mornings. He currently lives in New York.. Al RokerAlbert Lincoln Roker (born August 20, 1954) is an American television broadcaster, best known as the weatherman for NBC's Today show. Born in Queens, New York, Roker began his weathercasting career while he was a student at the State University of New Yor does weather updates and Ann Curry reads news headlines.

Previous hosts have included Bryant Gumbel, Jane Pauley, Deborah Norville , Tom Brokaw, Barbara Walters, and Hugh Downs. Popular former weathercaster Willard Scott still appears on the show daily doing the 100th birthday announcements he first became famous for in the 1980s.
