In February and March 1974 the SF-author Philip K. Dick had some visions,

he claimed to have been contacted by a transcendental mystical mind. Later he called this mind as Vast Active Living Intelligence System, VALIS. The "traumatic encounter" with VALIS caused Dick in the following years to write a diary with more than 8.000 pages, known as the "Exegesis".

Towards the end of his life Dick literary worked up his so-called "2-3-74 experiences" to three SF-novels filled with his thoughts about religion and philosophy, the VALIS trilogy.
