WPXH TV is the PAX TV affiliate of Birmingham/Anniston/Tuscaloosa market. The station is licensed out of Gadsden. The station originally began in mid 1990's as the Fox affiiiate for the Anniston television market. In 1996, when the big switch occured in Birmingham market, the station opted to switch to affiliation to CBS. The station operated as a CBS affiliated until the spring of 1999, when it decided to go independent, mainly due to the fact the Birmingham/Anniston/Tuscaloosa television market can't have 2 CBS affiliates, but also Paxson Communications owners of PAX TV bought the station. The station is currently in a local market agreement with WVTM-TV, so that can have a local newscast and WVTM-TV owner, NBC is also partial owners of Paxson Communications.
