WTVD-TV is a broadcast television station based in Durham, North Carolina. Broadcasting on VHF channel 11, WTVD is owned by, and is an affiliate of, the ABC television network. Its transmitter is located in Garner, North Carolina.WTVD began broadcasting in 1954 as a CBS network affiliate. In 1985, the station switched affiliations to ABC when its parent company, Capital Cities Broadcasting , purchased the ABC television network. WRAL-TV became the CBS affiliate. In 1996, Capital Cities was acquired by Disney. Veterans of WTVD's staff include musicians John Tesh and John Loudermilk .
