Waitsburg is a city located in Walla Walla County, Washington. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 1,212. Waitsburg has a unique city classification in the State of Washington. It is the only city which still operates under its territorial charter.

1 History

Waitsburg was officially incorporated on November 25, 1881.

2 Geography

Waitsburg is located at 46°16'5" North, 118°9'15" West (46.268060, -118.154278) 1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.5 km² (0.9 mi²). 2.5 km² (0.9 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

3 Demographics

As of the census 2 of 2000, there are 1,212 people, 490 households, and 314 families residing in the city. The population density is 492.6/km² (1,279.5/mi²). There are 522 housing units at an average density of 212.2/km² (551.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 94.80% White, 0.58% African American, 0.41% Native American, 0.66% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 1.16% from other racesThe United States Census Bureau uses the federal government's definitions of race when performing a census. There are 490 households out of which 32.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.0% are married couplesMarriage is a relationship that plays a key role in the definition of many families.
