William Calvin Oates (either November 30 or December 1, 1833September 9 1910) was an American colonel who led the 15th Alabama regiment in Battle of Gettysburg. He was the Democratic Governor of Alabama from 1894 to 1896.

Born in Pike County, Alabama to a farmer family, Oates joined the Confederate Army in 18611861 is a common year starting on Tuesday.
