Yakub Beg was born in Pskente , Kokand (in today's Uzbekistan).

He took advantage of anti-Chinese uprisings in what is now Xinjiang, in China, to make himself head of Kashgaria with its capital in Turfan. The Chinese retook the place and, although no one knows exactly what happened to him, many believe that he committed suicide in Kashgaria.
